The Big Splash Triathlon and River Festival raise the bar for Service Excellence

The Big Splash Organising Committee members who successfully completed the WorldHost Ambassador training programme were presented with their certificates by Mr Johnny O’Neill, Director, Portglenone Enterprise Group.

The training was provided in preparation for The Big Splash Festival which is being held in Portglenone during the period 16th to 22nd July 2017.

Volunteers considered how best to showcase the village, provide a warm welcome and impeccable customer service, go the extra mile and leave a lasting impression with visitors and tourists.

On presenting the certificates Mr O’Neill said that he congratulated the committee members in achieving the internationally recognised WorldHostAward in “Welcoming Tourists and Visitors to their Destination”.  He also commented that the skills acquired through this prestigious training programme will enhance the visitor experience for all who visit the festival.

Connor Duncan, Chair of the Festival, who completed the training said “Ambassador was a brilliant course which I would highly recommend.  We learned how visitor expectations are extremely important and how to plan the event from a visitor focussed perspective.  In addition to developing our skills in welcoming visitors we were also shown the resources that are available for tourists highlighting what there is to see and do in the local area”.  

Licensed WorldHost trainer Jean Haworth who delivered the training said “I am delighted that The Big Splash Organising Committee has decided to enhance the event by investing in customer service through the World Host programme. Volunteers will all play an important role in welcoming tourists and visitors to the village. I trust that their commitment to delivering World Class service excellence to every visitor every time will make The Big Splash a truly memorable experience for all who visit”.  

The WorldHost programmes are being rolled out across the country by Tourism Northern Ireland in partnership with People 1st to help businesses gain a competitive edge and position Northern Ireland as a world class tourist destination.
